Why Oral Health Is the New Self-Care Trend
Good oral health is becoming a lifestyle essential. Here's how Dentacare is redefining modern dentistry with personalized care and wellness-first solutions.

We have all had that one dreadful experience at the dentist. Whether it was suffering from tooth decay after munching on sugary treats or feeling self-conscious about a casual comment on bad breath, many Filipinos have historically turned to frugality rather than face their fear of professional dentists. The result? An overreliance on painkillers for toothaches and mindlessly continuing improper dental hygiene habits.
However, dental visits are undergoing a modern shift. Around the world, oral health is steadily becoming an essential act of self-care and wellness—right alongside personalized skincare routines and modern fitness habits.
Filipinos are officially moving away from the old “fix-it-when-it-breaks” attitude and abandoning outdated standards of unnaturally stark white teeth. Today, the focus is on achieving an ideal smile that is healthy, functional, and tailored to individual facial features and personality.
That is precisely where Dentacare comes in.
A Personalized Approach to Oral Health
“The goal isn’t to create the same smile for everyone, but to enhance each person’s unique appearance with results that look effortless and natural,” says Dra. Ma. Corazon Josefina Villadolid-Cristi, Chief Dentist and COO at Dentacare.
Dentacare specializes in natural enhancement—a thoughtful redesign of the right smile for every individual. Instead of chasing fleeting social media trends or forcing a specific shade, the clinic evaluates gum health, tooth structure, facial proportions, and long-term sustainability. For Dentacare, “the best smile isn’t the one that looks like someone else’s, but the one that looks like the best version of you.”
This same “best version of you” mindset carries over to dental implants, dentures, and veneers—because at Dentacare, fixing your smile and upgrading it go hand in hand. If you’re missing teeth, their implant game is all about precision, so you can chew, talk, and laugh with comfort and confidence. They also offer dentures that ensure a snug fit that stays put, while their veneers are crafted to look like your own teeth on their best day—thin, translucent, and remarkably natural.
Dental Care as an Everyday Investment
Dentacare aims to position dental services as a natural part of a person’s lifestyle rather than a last resort for pain management. They encourage regular cleanings, gum care, alignments, and preventive treatments as routine wellness investments—much like maintaining a gym membership or wearing daily sunscreen.
Patients are welcomed into a warm, calming environment by a dental team trained to communicate with empathy and compassion. With 26 branches located primarily in major malls across Metro Manila and neighboring provinces, quality dental care is designed to fit seamlessly into everyday life. One branch even features Mandarin-speaking staff to better serve Chinese locals and tourists.

Despite offering high-tech equipment and a team of experienced professionals, Dentacare maintains some of the most competitive pricing in Metro Manila. This balance of accessibility and clinical excellence has made the clinic a trusted choice for many overseas Filipino workers returning home.
Grounded Leadership and People-First Care
At the heart of the business, Dentacare ensures that every branch is fully staffed with qualified professionals.
“If there’s no dentist, there’s definitely no business at all,” says Doc Joanna.
A second-generation dentist from the Villadolid family and a graduate of New York University’s College of Dentistry, Doc Joanna has guided Dentacare’s evolution from a single clinic on Timog Avenue into an expanding network serving thousands of patients nationwide. While overseeing branch performance and business strategy, she continues to treat patients three days each week to remain connected to clinical practice.
Data-guided decisions and a people-first approach remain at the core of Dentacare’s operations. Under her leadership, the focus is on collective success through clear expectations, timely feedback, and professional recognition. That culture extends directly to patients, who experience genuine compassion and accountability from every dentist, hygienist, and staff member.
Oral Care Essentials: Expert Advice from Doc Joanna
How often should you visit the dentist?
“If you have good and well-maintained oral health, your visit should be at least twice a year. For those who developed gum disease or mild gingivitis, we suggest visiting every three months for deep cleaning and scaling.”

How often should you get whitening and deep cleaning?
“Deep cleaning is ideally every three months for patients with deep gum pockets, particularly after prolonged orthodontic treatment. Teeth whitening is best done twice a year, although patients who maintain their results well may only need it once annually. Once you’ve achieved your desired shade, maintenance every six months is usually enough.”
Do you recommend teeth whitening?
“Yes. It doesn’t just whiten your teeth—it also helps remove plaque that develops on top of your enamel.”
What dental habit do you personally recommend?
“Interdental flossing—or using a water flosser.”
What’s the most common oral care mistake people make?
“The most common mistake is brushing harder instead of brushing better while completely neglecting the spaces between the teeth. Brushing alone isn’t enough—you have to floss to properly clean those areas.”
Setting a New Standard in Dentistry
Looking ahead, Doc Joanna envisions success beyond expanding Dentacare’s branch network. Her goal is to establish the brand as a national benchmark for accessible, technology-enabled, and consistently excellent dentistry while serving as a platform for clinical training, leadership, and innovation for the next generation of Filipino dentists.
“It’s not really for us dentists to be famous but for the brand to be a household name,” she says, driven by a commitment to raise health standards across the industry for local patients and international visitors alike.
