Love Like Ashtine: The Nation’s Mutya Shares Her Heart in Debut EP

Over the past year, Ashtine Olviga’s back-to-back acting roles have helped put her name on the map. But so has her music career. Now, the multi-faceted rising star is determined to showcase more of her range with her debut EP, Love Like Ashtine.

The six-track record, as its title suggests, explores Olviga’s evolving views on love in different forms. It captures her youthful personality as much as her emotional depth through a versatile sonic palette.

Love Like Ashtine opens with Hinga, an upbeat tune that is reminiscent of the former P-pop idol’s sound. It revolves around self-love, preaching the thought of stepping back and taking time to breathe when things get rough.

The second song, This Way, is arguably the best apart from the title track. While it has a fun and groovy vibe, it delves deeper into the emotions of wanting a relationship to stay the same. 

Olviga shifts into a totally different persona in Enno, as she sends a clear “no” to men who don’t know where to draw the line.

Then comes Nasaan Ka Na?, an emotional ballad about the pain and uncertainty that comes with heartbreak, which she released ahead of the EP.

Dito Lang Tayo, the fifth track, highlights the actress-performer’s vocal compass as it leans into the ache of holding on to the memories with a special someone. 

The record closes with the bright, feel-good pop anthem, Love Like U. Dropped way back in April, the actress-performer said the title track serves as a love letter to everyone close to her heart, including no less than herself.

Olviga’s debut EP comes on the heels of her gearing up for her first major solo concert at the New Frontier Theater on August 22. With Love Like Ashtine, the 27-year-old Nation’s Mutya is finally getting her own moment to shine after years in the background, proving that her time to take center stage is long overdue.
