BTS at the FIFA World Cup: Is a New Song on the Way?

K-pop icons BTS are set to take one of the biggest stages in the international sports arena. Joining pop royalty Justin Bieber, Shakira, and Madonna, the boy band is headlining the first-ever FIFA World Cup final halftime show — expected to draw billions of viewers worldwide. 

But this monumental performance is not the only thing BTS fans are celebrating. In a recent livestream, j-hope has seemingly teased ARMYs when asked if they will be coming out with a new track for FIFA. The South Korean performer flashed a playful smirk before responding with a simple, “Hmmm.” 

That remark has since taken over fan spaces online. ARMYs have been speculating that BTS could be preparing to debut an unreleased song during their performance. As one fan wrote on X after seeing j-hope’s clip: “That face of his, I know they are cooking something. I just can’t prove it.” 

The theories go far beyond the band member’s “cryptic” statement. They are fueled by the fact that the entire halftime show is being curated by Coldplay’s Chris Martin — the same artist BTS collaborated with on one of their massive global hits, My Universe. Add to that the historic significance of this milestone, which comes at a pivotal time in the K-pop boy group’s career as they reunite as a full septet following the completion of their military service.

Whether the new song is just another fan theory remains to be seen. But it’s worth noting that BTS is the same group whose member Jung Kook debuted Dreamers at the World Cup in Qatar in 2022. And if the rumors prove true, their upcoming track will be part of a growing roster of original FIFA soundtracks.

While BTS has not confirmed any new music, j-hope shared how excited their group is to perform at the historic match, which will also raise money for the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, an initiative supporting children’s education worldwide.

“Can’t wait!” j-hope said, adding the World Cup has been “really fun these days.” He also revealed that their bandmate, SUGA, has been keeping them up-to-date on all things FIFA ahead of their performance.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup Finals will take place on July 19 (July 20 in Philippine time) at the New York New Jersey Stadium. Aside from a star-studded lineup of performers co-headlined by BTS, the inaugural halftime show will feature appearances by more icons—or perhaps characters—like Sesame Street and The Muppets, making for what could be one of the most legendary moments to unfold on the pitch.
