Shi Shi Returns With Multilingual EP The Taste Of… After Two-Year Hiatus

After a two-year hiatus, Taiwanese singer-songwriter Shi Shi (孫盛希) has returned with The Taste Of…, a new EP that marks the next chapter of her career while expanding her sound for a global audience.

The six-track project is Shi Shi’s first English-based EP, featuring songs in English, Mandarin, and Korean—a reflection of her upbringing in South Korea and her ambitions to connect with listeners beyond Taiwan. Inspired by the many emotions she experienced during her time away, the artist describes each track as a unique “cocktail,” with every song offering its own distinct flavor and story.

One of the EP’s standout tracks, “Tteokbokki,” takes a different approach from Shi Shi’s previous work by focusing on friendship instead of romance. Named after the beloved Korean street food, the song draws from her childhood memories of growing up in South Korea, where simple moments spent with friends became some of her most cherished experiences.

To capture that sense of nostalgia, Shi Shi collaborated with Chinese American producer Morrison Ma (MOSUN) and incorporated ambient recordings from a bustling Korean market into the song’s opening. The accompanying music video also reunites her with actress Lee Jung-Min, whom she had not seen in 16 years. Together, they portray childhood friends reconnecting over a meal, reinforcing the song’s themes of comfort, memory, and lasting friendship.

The Taste Of… also features an international lineup of collaborators, including K-pop producer parkhyeon, known for his work with MISAMO and (G)I-DLE’s Miyeon, as well as Different Sleep and Latin Grammy-winning producer Andrø Pop.

Shi Shi is one of Taiwan’s most celebrated singer-songwriters, having won both Best Female Singer and Best Album at the prestigious Golden Melody Awards. International audiences may also recognize her from “Someday or One Day,” the theme song for the acclaimed Taiwanese drama of the same name, as well as her 2024 collaboration “Goodbye Spring” with South Korean jazz artist Lee Jin-ah.

With The Taste Of…, Shi Shi continues to blend personal storytelling with diverse musical influences, opening a new chapter that reaches across cultures and languages while remaining true to the heartfelt songwriting that has defined her career.

The Taste Of… is now available on major streaming platforms.
