SB19 and BINI Submit Entries to the Grammys: What Will It Take for Them to Earn Nominations?

From their sold-out world tours to major stages like Coachella, Lollapalooza, and Summer Sonic Festival, SB19 and BINI have been ticking off one global milestone after another all year. Determined to strike while the iron is hot, both P-pop groups have now submitted entries for consideration at the 69th Grammy Awards. But while the development marks another step in their international pursuits, turning in an entry is different from earning a nomination.

SB19 and BINI on Tuesday announced that they have submitted VISA and Unang Kilig, respectively, for consideration in the controversial Best Asian Pop Music Performance category, which is set to debut at the upcoming ceremony.

The Asian Pop Music Performance award has drawn flak from industry leaders and global superstars like South Korea’s BTS and Stray Kids, who opted out of campaigning for the title, arguing that it limits the recognition of artists across the continent. The Recording Academy, however, moved forward with the category despite the backlash.

SB19’s only other submission is Lawless for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, which was won at the last Grammy Awards by Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande for their rendition of Defying Gravity from Wicked.

BINI, on the other hand, is vying for two more categories: Best Song Written for Visual Media with A Parallel World, the official soundtrack of DreamWorks’ Forgotten Island, and Best New Artist. In the last edition of the Grammys, the former went to K-pop Demon Hunters’ smash hit Golden, while the latter was awarded to British singer-songwriter Olivia Dean.

So, what do these Grammy submissions mean?

The Grammy Awards follow a multi-stage process, beginning with the submission of entries from qualified members of The Recording Academy and media companies. For the upcoming awards, eligible recordings must have been released between August 31, 2025, and August 28, 2026. All entries are evaluated to determine whether they meet the requirements before being placed in the appropriate categories. With SB19 and BINI’s submissions now assigned to specific titles, this means they have passed the initial review.

Eligible submissions like theirs will then proceed to the first round of voting, in which The Recording Academy’s panel will cast their ballots to determine the official nominees for each category. This is the stage at which the Kings of P-pop and Nation’s Girl Group’s entries are currently being considered. Their submissions, therefore, do not automatically guarantee nominations.

What happens next?

After the first round of voting, The Recording Academy’s voting members—composed of music professionals working across fields such as performance, songwriting, production, and engineering—are expected to announce the official nominees on November 16.

The panel will then vote in the final round to determine the winners across all categories from the nominated pool.

Whether SB19 and BINI make the cut or not, the results will be revealed at the 69th Grammy Awards ceremony on February 7, 2027 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California.

While a nomination at the Grammys would mark yet another milestone for two of the country’s pop powerhouses, the institution is not entirely unfamiliar territory. BINI performed at the Grammy Museum in April, followed by SB19 in July, bringing Filipino music further into the international conversation. Should either group score a nomination—or even take home a win—this would be a different kind of milestone altogether: a chance to make history on one of music’s biggest global stages and show the world that P-pop is not just a scene to watch, but an emerging, commanding force ultimately shaping pop culture worldwide.
