New actors in the K-drama industry are always a joy to meet and now adding to our fave list is Kim Won Shik – a rising actor that we should definitely keep our eyes on.
Known for his dazzling appearances on our most loved K-dramas, True Beauty and Alchemy of Souls – Kim Won Shik is on his way to making us swoon all over again as he graces us with his acting skill (and his cute side) in Universal Records PH's First-Ever Mini-Series, "Pag-Ibig Na Kaya" starring Julie Anne San Jose and Rayver Cruz.
This series will be the 30-year-old actor's first Filipino project, and he is thrilled to show what it is all about. During the production of the said mini-series, Won Shik showed his professionalism and kind character throughout the filming process. With his enthusiasm in shooting his scenes and the positive energy he unveils, he continuously brings good vibes to the set.
"It's a good experience for me. It's my first time working with Filipino actors. When I first read the script, I felt like it was like a Korean drama because you know, there are so many similarities. I even asked the writer if he is inspired by some K-Dramas while making this. It was good! And I really wanted this role here in Pag-ibig Na Kaya," Won Shik shares.
Kim has a natural charisma that shines through on screen – you'll be seeing more of him soon! Set your calendars because "Pag-Ibig Na Kaya" is set to launch this February 2023.
One fact that you need to know about Won Shik or Sam (his English name) is he can understand and speak the Filipino Language since he lived and studied here in the Philippines for six and half years!
Now, get to know him a lot better as PARCINQ sat down with our favorite Songrim mage for an exclusive interview to talk about his upcoming Filipino project, his notable role, his memorable experiences living in the Philippines, and his future projects.
How did you get into acting? What inspired you to take this career?
K: When I was in the Philippines, Actress Park Shin-hye visited the Philippines to hold her fan meeting, and I brought my sister to her fan meeting. The manager of Park Shin-hye asked me to come to Korea to become an artist. And from there, I started my singing and acting career.
How do you feel about your first acting project in the Philippines? Tell us about your experience during the production.
K: It's my very first project from a Filipino production, and I loved working with them. I feel pressured in saying my lines in English and Filipino, but it will surely help me grow as an actor. I know Pag-ibig Na Kaya is inspired from K-Dramas, so better watch out for it.
Can you tell us about your role in your upcoming mini-series?
K: Here in PNK, I play the role of Oli. He is a graphic designer for Future Labels (the label I work for in the mini-series). Here, I work with artists, like a rising artist JAYDEN. It's gonna be funny. Oli is really a “mabait” person. Oli has a crush on Sab (played by Julie Anne), although he doesn't really approach or court her. Anyway, I try to help Sab with her work to get close to her.
What is your fondest memory of when you were studying/staying in the Philippines? Any interesting stories to tell?
K: Well, I stayed in the PH for a lengthy amount of time because I liked it! I like the Philippines and how they treat me here. People are very sweet and hospitable. I like visiting the beaches here as well. Now I'm looking forward to making more memories here in the PH, and I'll keep you all posted!
You just had your healing trip in the Philippines recently. What was your favorite part of your fun trip? Are there any places in the Philippines you want to visit next?
K: Whenever I snorkel in the ocean, I feel like I am all alone in this world. And it's beautiful to see underwater. To be honest, I really want to visit Boracay again soon.
What is something that you love about the Philippines? (food, places, people, culture, etc.)
K: Of course, I love the PH, especially the people here! They are warm, cheerful, and love to laugh. There are also games that teach me lots of things! A reason why I can learn more Filipino words and phrases.
What's coming up next for you? What is something your fans could look forward to?
K: Well, you guys have to follow me on social media @shigishigi93 on Instagram to get to know more about my upcoming projects. Right now, I'm really focused on this Pag-ibig Na Kaya mini-series. I hope it becomes successful.
What is your message to your Filipino supporters?
K: To all of my supporters there in the Philippines, I wanna thank you very much. And to be honest, guys, this is only the beginning, and I look forward to more projects and exposure here. I also want to thank Universal Records for believing in me. Fighting!
