Talk about putting OPM on the map—2024 was a real game-changer for Filipino music. From BINI’s year-long creative “lockdown” to the rise of fresh talents who’ve made it onto our playlists (gatekept or not), the local music scene thrived alongside industry icons and indie gems.
According to the latest year-end report, the Philippines emerged as one of the fastest-growing markets for premium streaming of local songs among non-English-speaking countries. With streaming platforms bridging the gap between artists and audiences, last year became a defining moment for OPM, and of course, P-pop—a movement that’s only gaining momentum as we head into 2025.
And with P-pop soaring to new heights, trailblazed by BINI, SB19, ALAMAT, and more, Parcinq is here to introduce you to three rising groups ready to take the spotlight.
1621BC
For avid survival show fans, the members of 1621BC might look familiar—and for good reason. All six members were once “Dream Chasers” on the global idol survival program Dream Maker, the show that formed the all-Filipino pop group HORI7ON. While their journey into the K-pop realm was cut short, it turned out to be the perfect redirection, allowing them to showcase their talents right here at home.
Fresh off their wins at the 2024 Awit Awards and P-pop Awards, 1621BC is set to capture even more hearts this year.
The group’s name, 1621BC, is rich in meaning—1621 is an angelic number symbolizing auspicious new beginnings, while BC carries multiple interpretations, from Beyond Complete and Boundless Courage to Believe Completely, Boldly Captivating, Beautifully Charming, and Blessed Circle.
Composed of JM, JC, Pan, Win, Migz, and DJ, the six-member group 1621BC is under the management of PPL Entertainment and is steadily making a mark in the P-pop scene.
The boys of 1621BC officially debuted on November 23, 2023, with the track “Laruan,” marking the start of their journey in the industry. Their self-titled extended play, released in February 2024 captured listeners with its youthful, love-filled tracks.
Now, with their latest comeback “Bagamundo,” 1621BC steps into a new era. The song tells a story of resilience and chasing dreams, embodying the group’s determination to carve their place in the industry. And yes, they’re just getting started.
