When we talk about ‘Boys of Summer,’ we talk about men who make our hearts go afire with their alluring physique and seductive outlook. But describing ALAMAT as merely blazing is an understatement. In the midst of the scorching Gaia Datu, they are incandescent, and I’ll tell you why as you read along.
ALAMAT as Boys of Summer
Our definitions of a ‘Boy of Summer’ may vary, but for the multi-ethnic, multi-language P-Pop group, it’s someone who embodies the essence of summer—energetic, carefree, adventurous, and sexy.
It's quite literal, but I can attest to how they embodied this during the shoot. Despite the long waiting times and intense weather, I never heard them complain or display exhaustion. In fact, they were enjoying themselves, grooving along to some P-Pop summer tunes as they waited for their turn.
If that doesn't look like they were having the time of their lives, as summer should be, then I don't know what does. But I'm certain they're thrilled to embrace and showcase their summer with all of their Magiliws, including this magazine feature.
"It is very exciting for us to be a part of this issue because we want to explore summer with all of you," enthuses Alas.
On igniting the stage
Striking models surrounded Gaia Datu during the shoot, and ALAMAT was no different than them.
They may be covered in cloth in their photos, but every pose looks like they're strutting towards your heart, which is swoon-worthy to say the least—and that's just in the magazine alone. Imagine how much more if they lit up the stage with their talent and looks!
When asked when they feel sexy as P-Pop idols, Main vocalist Mo confidently shares, "Every time we are able to grace the stage and give everything ALAMAT can offer. Performing with passion makes us feel sexy."
Well, physical sexiness may not be everyone's cup of tea, but ALAMAT accepts unconstructive comments with grace.
"It's a bit shocking that we are receiving feedback about our sexiness; perhaps they see it in our dance or physique. But it's really part of our growth and continuous training for future activities,” Tomás confesses.
It's clear that the sextet is working diligently to give us the performance we deserve, and part of that is transforming into fine, sexy men. You just have to accept that every soil they step on becomes a stage ready to be ignited, and there's no denying their sexiness fueled by their passion.
Being sexy in ALAMAT’s way
Beyond the rigorous training and rehearsals that come with performing, ALAMAT’s leader Taneo shared with conviction that maintaining a healthy body is just as sexy as having toned, simp-inducing physiques.
"Healthy is sexy, and being true to yourself is sexy.” Healthiness, though, looks different for everyone, but Taneo reiterated that confidence is key.
“You can be sexy in the way you want to portray yourself. Just always have confidence."
For the three-year-old group, staying healthy and in shape despite hectic schedules includes "working out, swimming, or even just going for a walk or run in the early morning or evening when it's cooler, which is also something we do in our free time." Meal planning and prioritizing sleep are also essential for ALAMAT’s overall wellness.
And one more thing that makes ALAMAT sexy is they always protect themselves with a bit of skincare—sunscreen. With the rising heat indexes, just a swipe or two of sunscreen goes a long way in maintaining their complexion and keeping themselves from getting sunburnt.
“[It also makes] dipping in the water under the summer heat [to refresh ourselves] more enjoyable and less of a hassle,” expresses Jao.
Remaining true to their core
Now this is the part where ALAMAT truly shines like the sun. While others go far and beyond, the P-Pop group chose the Philippines as the best summer hotspot to unwind, and they could never go wrong.
With members coming from different parts of the country and never shying away from incorporating that diversity into their artistry, it felt natural for them to recommend our provinces for a summer escapade.
“Choose the Philippines! There are so many summer hotspots here to unwind, like Boracay, Palawan, Siargao, Cebu, Batanes, Bohol, and many more!” endorses R-Ji fervently.
Whether that would be in Luzon, Visayas, or Mindanao, ALAMAT is equally excited to experience their own summer getaway. “As ALAMAT, we have yet to experience a summer getaway at the beach. Hopefully, we'll be able to do it soon! It's time to create memories together as brothers,” reveals Alas.
While we wait for that to happen, and perhaps get another beach-themed music video on the side, Jao shared the summer activities or traditions they enjoy in their own time.
“[Attending] various festivals and fiestas like Flores de Mayo, Carabao Festival, Pintados Festival, and many more are celebrated throughout the summer months in different parts of the Philippines.”
Tomas added that your Philippine summer experience wouldn’t be complete without these festivals “as they often feature colorful parades, street dancing, cultural performances, and delicious local food.”
Blazing our hearts even more, Taneo says they draw inspiration from the energy and freedom of summer. "It's a time for exploration, relaxation, and new experiences, all of which can shape one's career and artistic vision."
This season might be different from the last, but who knows? We might be getting a summer anthem from them again soon, inspired by all these experiences they've just shared with us.
For now, they recommend jamming to "Day and Night" during your summer adventures. This title track from their 2023 IsaPuso album features an upbeat rhythm and uplifting lyrics that capture the essence of the season, making it a great addition to any summer playlist.
Wrapping up the conversation I’ve had with them, I can tell we've chosen the perfect "Boys of Summer" to feature in this issue. There's nothing sexier than a man who knows his identity, stays true to it, and proudly shows it. That's exactly who ALAMAT is as a group this summer, and even all year round.
