A Love Letter to the Girls And Gays: Ganda Gandahan Music Video by Dia Maté

Filipina popstar Dia Maté drops the music video to her latest single, “Ganda Gandahan” available on all streaming platforms.

Dia Maté released the music video for “Ganda Gandahan,” a synth-pop banger centered on owning and celebrating your uniqueness and individuality despite being made to feel the opposite by everyone around you, showcasing a full-blown filipina pop star in action. Dia showcases a blend of fierce and sexy aura, oozing confidence, fluid dancing, and a face card that never declines, making her stamp as the new filipina pop girl.

The video starts with Dia explaining her frustrations in “Beauty and a Bayot,” a faux-podcast segment with her real life best friend and fellow Radical Music artist/singer-songwriter, Dom Guyot. They delve into the standards set on women and explain the latter through performance as the music video progresses.

Stunning visuals coincide with the wonderful storytelling, with each part having deep-rooted meaning. In the first half of the track, you see a glimpse of Dia getting suffocated by a plastic sheet, signifying how suffocated she feels with the expectations set around her. She then follows up with shots where she is chained to a treadmill in heels, expressing how she is chained to the beauty standards set by society.

The latter half showcases Dia on two billboards, referencing how there are real-life people behind the media people consume. This was followed up by a scene in the trophy room expressing the insatiable chase for success.

A big part of Dia’s music video is the people from the Philippine Ballroom Community. Ballroom culture, which is a queer subculture originating in Harlem that took prominence within the queer communities in the late 1970s-1980s, has been a safe space for LGBTQIA+ individuals to express their identities free from discrimination, ridicule and harm. In recent years, the Ballroom scene has made its way to the Philippines, bringing together people from different walks of life, celebrating each other in balls all over Manila.

“I’ve walked the balls and seen so much talent inside these different individuals. My entire life, I’ve had the strongest connection with the LGBTQ+ community, and with balls, I feel safe and at home. I wanted to showcase what the scene has to offer by bringing in the voguers and femme queens to participate in the video.”

Dia Maté brought in voguers Nova Mendonça, Berta Juicy Couture, Alima Juicy Couture, Arcii 007, Akali Bodega, Ari Krystal Mizrahi, Lexsii Cnco, and Fluereon Cinco to vogue the house down boots and showcase an extravagant performance you will never forget. Dia also brought in femme queens from the local scene, namely, Aqi Juicy Couture, Savina Juicy Couture Mizrahi, Indy Mendonça, and Dahlia Cleopatra Labeija, as the femme queens are the reason why Ballroom Culture exists.

“I aim to give the audience a three-minute experience where they feel the euphoria of self-love and I feel like I feel that way the most when I walk the balls which is why I wanted to bring my sisters for this project. There is so much love, celebration, and talent in the ballroom scene here in the Philippines, and I wanted to showcase that in the video.”

When asked about the process surrounding Ganda Gandahan’s MV, Dia said, “Ganda Gandahan is a track that encapsulates me blossoming into the woman little Dia has always wanted to become which is why I spent months training to be the best popstar I am capable of being. I wanted to realize my full potential as an artist and Ganda Gandahan is the first step in my take off as a new butterfly after years of being cocooned. ”

Ganda Gandahan Music Video is a 4 mi4-minutek of art tailor-made to celebrate unapologetically claiming the beauty within gays and gals.

Dia Maté is also set to bring her ganda gandahan game all the way to Bolivia this coming February 2025 to represent the Philippines at Reina Hispanoamericana 2024. She’s ready to take the world by storm as the new main filipina pop girl with a face card that never declines and a national pageant title to prove it.
